Pianist Dénes Várjon is looking forward to a busy period as he tours the world’s most prestigious concert halls in the coming weeks.
Várjon first played Bartók’s Piano Concertos Nos 2 and 3 with the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam conducted by Iván Fischer and Concerto Budapest conducted by András Keller, and then gave a masterclass at the Kronberg Academy in Germany.
On 27 and 30 May, the pianist played Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A major K. 488 with Concerto Budapest, first as part of the Promenade concerts and then at a charity concert for the International Children’s Safety Service. Also on 27 May in Budapest and on 29 May at the world-famous Wigmore Hall in London, he performed a piano concerto for four hands with his wife, Izabella Simon.
On 1 June, he will give a solo recital at the Horowitz Center at Columbia in the US, and in the middle of this month he will perform in Düsseldorf with cellist Steven Isserlis and violinist Alina Ibragimova.
From there he will travel to Bern, where he will play Bartók’s Piano Quintet with the Gringolts String Quartet, a performance that will be performed at the Academy of Music in Budapest on 21 June. This summer, he will be present at a number of prestigious venues, including the Lofoten International Piano Festival in Norway, as the artistic director of the festival, and in August he will give a concert with András Schiff at the prestigious Salzburg Festival.
